The National Apprenticeship Service recently announced that based on its success so far, AGE 16 to 24 has been extended to support employers for a further 12 months, so will no longer end as originally planned after its first year in March 2013.
For an employer to receive a grant they must commit to the following:
- The Employer would not be in a position to employ this new apprentice without the AGE 16 to 24 payment.
- The Employer will employ the apprentice for at least the time it takes to complete their Apprenticeship programme, or a minimum of 12 months, whichever is greater (Subject to satisfactory performance of the apprentice as an employee).
- The Employer will pay the apprentice at least the minimum wage for a 16 to 24 year old apprentice of £2.65 per hour, including time for off the job training.
- The Employer has not employed an apprentice who has started their apprenticeship programme in the previous 12 months (from the start date of this new Apprenticeship).
- The Employer will complete a state aid declaration form, confirming that they are aware of and do not breach any state aid rules.
- The Employer has less than 1000 employees in the UK.
